What better way to celebrate turning 50 than a camping trip in the Uluguru mountains! I work in Dar and so my peeps and I stayed in Morogoro on Friday, and Saturday started our big adventure.

The 4 of us were varying levels of fitness, and so we took our time as Karel, Saidi and crew helped carry our stuff as well as educate and entertain us regarding vegetation, village culture and more details on the Chama project.

Day one began with a visit to the Jane Goodal Roots n Shoots project, and finished up with an exhilarating dip in a waterfall pool near the campsite.

Day two a couple of us hiked up to the National Reserve - absolutely breathtaking vistas! The fog rolled in, and then suddenly it was gone, and the jungle canopy rose in its place. I was in awe by the beauty. On our return we drank water direct from a pristine stream and visited Saidi's shamba, where he explained and identified all of the spice plants.

The evening ended with some dancing, and then birthday cake by the campfire.

Cant wait to return!!!
