About me / us:	I have an extensive background in development issues particularly in Nepal where I lived for 6 years working for WaterAid, UNICEF, the Britain Nepal Medical Trust and the British Council. With my partner Durga Aran, we researched an Early Childhood Development project in the Darjeeling hills of West Bengal, India. I studied at the University of California, San Diego on the supervision of adults in early childhood education and hold a post graduate certificate in development management. I have integrated the theory of managing development with my knowledge of the field in Nepal.
Why 1%MEMBER:	Having recently completed our first project in rural Nepal, creating an Early Childhood Development Centre, we now wish to further enhance our services. We would welcome the opportunity to raise funds through the 1% CLUB to develop a parental education and improved family health programme. Our grassroots organization has been funded to date through individual donors who are critical to our success. The 1%CLUB would enable us to reach a much wider audience particularly in Europe. We share the belief that everyone no matter what their income, can make a positive contribution to the alleviation of poverty.

First Steps Himalaya is delighted to announce that 6 new community Early Childhood Development projects have commenced in rural Nepal. We deliver quality Early Childhood Education, parent education and community health messages in 6 villages of rural Sindhupalchok. We plan another 10 centres for next year. We seek support to continue to run these services through our child sponsorship scheme which is the cost of a daily newspaper.

Our health promotion programme operates from a room at our existing centre and we aim to improve the nutrition, health and safety of young children and their families.

Regrettably, the Board of Trustees of First Steps Himalaya have decided to withdraw our project posting from this website.
